The art of photographing children is not a craft that can be learned. It is a “gift” children are able to sense, one that requires patience, understanding and genuine kindness. If you look into the window display of Whippersnappers Children’s Boutique, in downtown Missoula, you will see what great children’s photography is all about. Specializing in the personality of children, Sand Box Studios brings ou that personality and translates it into beautiful portraits.
Although everyone has shoeboxes full of their children’s pictures, the ones from Sand Box Studios will be the ones your parents will place on the mantle. These are the photographs your children will hand down to their children.

Sand Box Studios is in a class by itself. Owner Tony Rizuto started his business five years ago with a vision to photograph what he calls, “authentic portraits of children.” He has since added another great photographer, Athena Lonsdale, to help him. As Tony says, “we take the time to bring out the magic of childhood.” Anyone who sees their work will be impressed with how each photograph captures the essence of youth. The child’s inner glow seems to come alive and radiate out of each picture. “It may take fifteen minutes or an hour for a child to relax and have fun,” says Tony. “You can’t rush kids.” That approach is why Sand Box Studios has been so successful. Their clients range from infants to children about 10 years old. “Some parents bring their children back every year to document not just their changes in looks but the changes in their personality and style,” say Tony.

Originally from the big island of Hawaii, Tony is married to wife Liz, from Great Falls. They have one daughter. To find out more about Sand Box Studios or to schedule an appointment call 406.327.1578.
