With
the Mission Mountains as a backdrop, Drew Creek lulling guests to
sleep, and over 200 acres of well-kept land, it comes as no surprise
that the Double Arrow Resort is a popular destination. The Double
Arrow Resort lies near the city limits of Seeley Lake, off Highway
83. Established in 1929 as the first dude ranch in the area, Double
Arrow has witnessed changes in both its owners and its purpose.
Since 1929, Double Arrow has served as cattle ranch, Depression-era
lodging house, and private playground.
Today, the Double Arrow is a full-fledged, four-season resort. Due
to its location, the outdoor recreation opportunities are plentiful.
Since the resort is open to the public, its golf course is a popular
place for local entertainment from spring to late fall. Guests do
get preferential tee time, but with 18 holes, crowding is never a
problem. In addition to golfing, visitors of the resort can enjoy
seasonal fly-fishing, horseback riding, and hiking. Tennis courts
and a volleyball court are also a short walk from the Main Lodge and
guest cabins. During the winter months, cross-country skiing and
snowmobiling are popular activities for guests. Other activities,
including sleigh rides, can also be arranged with the resort. For
those preferring the indoors on cold days, young and old alike are
invited to enjoy the indoor pool and hot tub. Outside, children can
also enjoy the Double Arrow’s playground and sandbox or the wooden
climbing set.
Guests
at Double Arrow have almost as many options regarding their
accommodations as they do regarding their recreation. The resort
offers guests the options of staying in main lodge rooms, private
cabins, or condominiums. Many of the guest cabins were built in the
1930s and have been updated to include modern comforts without
losing their rustic appeal. In juxtaposition with televisions, VCRs,
and alarm clocks are antique furnishings that date back to the time
the cabin was built.
In the heart of the resort lies the Main Lodge. Built over 75 years
ago, the 5,000 square foot lodge is where the Double Arrow’s
four-star restaurant, Seasons, is located. Dining itself becomes a
form of entertainment at the classy restaurant maintained by Mary
Lynn Jones. Bryce Finn, the executive chef at Seasons, dishes up
classic country fare like to delight the palate. Guests gather at
Seasons for tasty continental breakfasts, brunch, or intimate
candlelit dinners. Recently, Wine Spectator recognized Seasons for
having one of the most extensive, quality wine lists in the world.
Year round the beautiful view beckons diners to Seasons with outdoor
seating available in the summer.
When
Seasons is closed, guests can enjoy mingling and cocktails at Double
Arrow’s Stirrups Lounge. At Stirrups, a large fireplace warms the
atmosphere, hearkening back to a time gone by. Next to the crackling
fire, guests may exercise their musical prowess on the resort’s
piano or their mental prowess on the available board games.
Weddings, family reunions, and conferences are all frequent
occurrences at the Double Arrow Resort. The Mountain View Pavilion
can accommodate up to 150 guests for ceremonies, banquets, or
receptions. Meals can be planned by the professional kitchen staff
who will cater to every need. Built in 1997, specifically for
conference use, Double Arrow’s Blackfoot Lodge can seat up to 100
people and houses its own kitchen facilities. Smaller groups can
enjoy the Stirrups Lounge or the recently renovated Hilltop Lodge.
Hilltop Lodge includes full kitchen facilities and an intimate
setting conducive to both business and social interaction.
Reaching the Double Arrow Resort is nearly as pleasurable as the
stay. Driving north from Missoula or south from Great Falls yields a
scenic trip through the Blackfoot valley or the Swan valley. Flying
into Seeley Lake is not an option during the late fall or winter.
