Montana Stone Gallery
Stepping
into the showroom at the Montana Stone Gallery is a genuine
pleasure for the senses. It is here that anyone can be
introduced to natural stone viewed as art. Granite and
marble from countries around the world hang framed on the
walls. Displaying these pieces as art brings attention to
the rich variation in color and pattern that come to life
when these stones are cut and polished. It is certainly
easier to imagine the beauty such a stone slab can add to
your home when you spend a few moments admiring these
displays.
The idea for the Montana Stone Gallery spawned while Tad
Dixon was installing a stone slab for Roy and Kim Chacon. At
the time Dixon owned Elegance in Stone, a custom stone
installation shop in Florence. The problem they encountered
during the project was the inability for customers to
actually view the stones they were interested in before they
were delivered for installation. To solve that problem Tad,
along with his wife Diane, and the Chacons, created a
wholesale distribution center for natural stone slabs in
Missoula.

Building on a foundation of 28 years experience in the stone
fabrication industry Tad was able to conceive a better way
to distribute stone slabs. While having an espresso from
their in store coffee stand Diane, or one of the specially
trained designers, will assist clients with color
suggestions, appropriate uses for different kinds of stone,
and finally with selecting a fabricator who can expertly
install their chosen slab. Because they are strictly a
wholesaler, customers can’t actually purchase a slab from
the Gallery, but they can discover the perfect stone to fit
their needs. After they have found the perfect stone they
can discuss the purchase with their chosen fabricator who
can then purchase the slab and install it for them. Having
access to this level of customer service is unequaled at the
distribution side of this industry. The people at Montana
Stone Gallery genuinely want to help you find the right
stone.

Working with a designer in your selection is just the
beginning of the experience at the Gallery. Once a selection
of stones has been narrowed to a handful of choices
customers are then welcomed into the massive warehouse to
actually view the slabs they are interested in. What better
way to envision how the entire stone will look than to see
the actual slab. The patterns and variations of colors,
crystals, even fossils can actually be viewed. At Montana
Stone Gallery customers can bring in a door from their
cabinets and see it right up next to their selected stones.
How much easier can picking your stone slab get?
To provide this level of access Tad has created an inventory
of over 15,000 square feet of stone slabs representing 145
different colors. By the end of this summer that will
increase to 30,000 square feet of slabs and 170 colors. The
various marble and granite slabs in the warehouse have been
imported from around the world. Stones from quarries in
Peru, Italy, Spain, India, Turkey, and Norway can be viewed
in the Gallery’s warehouse. With such a large investment in
inventory, Tad and Roy visit the various quarries to ensure
the quality of stone they will purchase. With his
experience, Tad has developed a keen eye for the best stones
available. The added advantage of working directly with the
quarry is that better prices can be negotiated at the site
and the very best stones can be selected.

The attention to detail and the care taken in creating the
only independent distribution center of stone slabs in
Montana has carried over to the Montana Stone Gallery
website. Every slab and color available at the warehouse can
be found there. Carefully taken photos show each slab so
customers can get a first look at stones and colors they
might like. The fabricators, who are registered with the
gallery, can also log on to the site’s live database of
slabs available, view slab specifications and sizes, and
order a specific stone that a customer may already have
selected. This type of functionality saves fabricators time
and is currently unheard of in the stone distribution
industry.
