Hart Boot Camp
Why Boot Camp??? I actually get asked that
question a lot and the answers are very simple, but in order
to answer effectively, I need to take you on a trip down
memory lane.
It all started in the summer of 2003. My husband and I
started talking about the Grizzly Triathlon. We had both
been very active in sports as teenagers and had continued to
keep up a very active lifestyle, but we were by no means
“triathlete” material. In the back of my mind, however, I
just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Mostly, though, my
thinking consisted of thoughts like , “What? Am I crazy? I
don’t know how to swim, don’t care to run and have never
biked before.” In fact I almost drowned when I was
nine-years old and have a very healthy fear of water. I
thought long and hard, made the commitment to myself and
started training for my 1st Triathlon. It definitely was a
challenge! It took me 8 months to teach myself to swim laps.
Though I’m sure that timeframe could have been easily cut in
half had I decided to take actual lessons, I was simply too
embarrassed with my lack of swimming ability that I felt I
had to at least teach myself the basics before subjecting
anyone else to my inadequacies. I followed a strict training
schedule, which consisted of running, biking, swimming and,
of course, weight training. I also started becoming more
interested in the nutrition needed by my body to help me
accomplish my goal . I read anything on triathlons that I
could get my hands on, I joined any online chat room that
had to do with triathlons or nutrition and, of course, I
trained…and trained…and trained.
Well, I finished my 1st Triathlon. It definitely wasn’t the
fastest time and it wasn’t the prettiest thing to watch –
but I FINISHED!!! The experience of crossing that finish
line changed my life from that moment on. I was so full of
self-confidence that I felt I could take on the world,
accomplish anything I wanted! It was a great feeling and,
upon looking back, it was a huge turning point in my life. I
learned that I actually loved fitness and nutrition.
Unfortunately for my friends and family I loved it so much
that all I talked about was fitness and nutrition! I started
changing my eating habits and each time I read an article, I
would implement the ideas into my life to see if they really
worked. Some did and some didn’t; but the thing I started
noticing was that because of my incessant talk about fitness
and nutrition and the passion I felt regarding both, I was
influencing those around me to make changes in their life.
That really got my attention. I loved the feeling I got from
helping others and I found that I really had a drive to help
others believe in themselves and realize that they can
accomplish their goals just like I did. I realized at this
point that I wanted to help more people and the only way to
do that was to become a Professional Personal Trainer.
I knew that I was more than capable of obtaining my
Professional Personal Trainer Certification, but the
question became, “How do I incorporate the idea of helping
as many people as possible into my already hectic schedule?”
This brings us to the first “Why Boot Camp?” answer…
With Hart Adventure Boot Camp I am able to help more than
one woman at a time. The class format allows me to train
many different fitness levels at once. Any woman, regardless
of whether they have been sedentary for the last 5 years or
have been working out 3 days a week, can enter these classes
and feel comfortable with the intensity of the training.
Each woman is only competing with herself so it is totally
up to her what she gets out of the class. The effort put
forth also also reflected in their results, which brings me
to my second answer to “Why Boot Camp?”
The format of the Hart Adventure Boot Camp allows for some
amazing results. Each day is different so a person’s body
never gets used to any one routine and the results speak for
themselves:2 women lost almost 5 inches off of their waist
in one month. Another woman lost a total of 13.25 inches
after completing one full program. Most women have more than
doubled their strength during the class and, most
importantly, many women realize that they do not want to go
back to their old ways; instead they adopt a healthier
lifestyle. I believe that is the best result of all!
Create a new beginning. Isn’t that what the military boot
camps do? I believe that is the most important answer to
“Why Boot Camp?” It is a great kick-start for a new
lifestyle.
